Today, I have a guest post to share with you about a family’s homeschool experience!
Sarah Scudder is a mother of four daughters (Sophia 10, Naomi 7, Mercy 5, and Oliva 2). She has been homeschooling for 7 years. Her favorite part of homeschooling is reading all the great books to her children that she never read as a child.

An object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will continue in a straight line at the same speed, unless an unbalanced force acts upon it. INERTIA!
As I walk through the hall, I hear children singing about inertia. I look into a classroom and see teenagers, sitting in a circle, discussing historical viewpoints and how the struggles of World War II have implications for their lives today. As I keep moving down the hall, I observe a tutor reading aloud to her students. I enter the Kindergarten classroom and am transported to Ellis Island as students re-enact the arrival and registration of immigrants. I am amazed at all that is happening and I smile. I am so grateful to be at Claritas Classical Academy. Continue reading “A Hybrid Homeschool Experience”
Here’s the last post for Advent from my friend, Rosario. If you like to plan ahead and are thinking about the holiday season, I thought I would share some of her family’s adventures during the Advent season. Maybe you will find one or two things you would like to add this year to your homeschool/family Christmas season!

Advent for 2019 starts December 1st!
Jesse Tree
The Jesse Tree is a daily Christmas tradition, a tangible representation of Jesus’ genealogy. It comes from Isaiah 11:1, “There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.” Jesus is the shoot that sprouted from Jesse, King David’s father. There is an ornament for every day in December from the 1st to the 25th, each telling the story of an ancestor of Jesus or of an event leading up to His birth.
Sometimes a Jesse Tree and the Advent calendar are linked and the Jesse Tree becomes the Advent calendar, but for us they are celebrated as two different things. We tried making our own Jesse Tree ornaments and I was just never happy with them, so I was thrilled when I found a beautifully made wood set from this small shop on Etsy. You wouldn’t think something as simple as a bag of ornaments would draw a child’s attention and elicit excitement, but our kids were so happy to sift through the burlap to find the ornament for the day. They alternated days, lest one sibling get more turns finding an ornament than the other. No, no, that just wouldn’t do LOL. Ideally, we did Continue reading “Advent Ideas: Part 3”
