Wednesday, July 6, 2016  – 10:00-3:00

$15 per child. One adult per family and children ages 3 and under are free. Additional adults are $15 each.

Explore the extensive Museum Archives, go on a guided tour, visit conservators at work In the Artifact Lab, and join a hands-on workshop about conservation practices. Find out more about museum careers by meeting a variety of Penn Museum professionals from an educator, to a curator, to an exhibition designer.

Programs and Activities for The Mediterranean World

Pick and choose from an assortment of offerings throughout this Homeschool Day.

  • Encounter the civilizations of Mesopotamia, Canaan, and more on guided tours of galleries.
  • Storytime Expeditions will bring younger students into the gallery as they explore stories from Native America.
  • Hands-on workshops feature archaeological conservation, the process of preserving ancient artifacts.
  • Watch conservators work on ancient Egyptian artifacts in our public conservation laboratory, the In the Artifact Lab
  • Budding artists can stop by drop-in art activity.
  • Enjoy career spotlights with an exhibit mount-maker, and a conservator who works with mummies.

As a bonus, watch conservation in action as staff work on conserving and deinstalling the Buddhist murals in the third floor Chinese Rotunda gallery.

Wednesday, July 13, 2016 – 10:00-12:00 or 1:00-3:00

$12 student, or free for members

Exploit the heat of summer by using the sun for energy! Can we bake cookies in a solar powered oven? Let’s find out!ting safety, then explore the Schuylkill by rowboat.  RSVP required, limited spaces.  There will be alternative activities available for students not going on the water.
